  • Finally I will soon release Akocomment 2.2.5 (the one which is working on my homepage) with comment tracking among other new functionalities...

    Please use the tracker at sourceforge and give me (us) ideas of what kind of functionalities You want to see in it. If You want to avoid the hassle of creating an account or do not know how to, You can also use this thread to submit ideas as comments.

    My ideas Are:

    • Hashcash is not intrusive, user has nothing to do to enter a comment (the cryptographic anti spammer check occur in the background)
    • SecurityImages use captcha, and so force user to enter character he has read in an image
    I was thinking since a long time of using a 3rd party authority with is more smarter than me in oder to determine if the comment is a real spam, and I found this:
    Akismet Automatic Kismet (Akismet for short) is a collaborative effort to make comment and trackback spam a non-issue and restore innocence to blogging, so you never have to worry about spam again. When a new comment, trackback, or pingback comes to your blog it is submitted to the Akismet web service which runs hundreds of tests on the comment and returns a thumbs up or thumbs down. With Akismet, you're always protected up-to-the-second from the latest dirty tricks of spammers. There's no maintenance, no upgrading, no hassle.
    This work as webservice, so code changes are minimal and quite easy to do
    2A Plugin system to allow extensions more easily (Plugin can be registered in a linked list or similar) at runtime

    Get inspiration from existing commenting systems, or simply be creative!
    Please submit ideas fast! I will then assign priority them in the tracker
  • You can now post comments everywhere and react to my articles (feel free to do it ;-) ), but please respect following guidelines:

    • Please keep the topic of messages relevant to the subject of the article.
    • Please keep your comments and language G-rated; because it can be read by everyone!
    • Personal verbal attacks will be deleted.
    • Please don't use comments to plug your web site. Such material will be removed

    Moreover, You can also rate articles individually from 1 (poor content) to 5 (best content)

  • Comments are no more working on my homepage

    This is not due to my plugin security images but more to openSEF, a very good SEF (Search Engine Friendly)/ SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) component for Joomla/Mambo:

    • SEO are techniques and changes that are made to the content and code of a web site in order to increase its rankings in the results pages of search engines and directories. These changes may involve rewriting body copy, altering Title or Meta tags, removal of Frames or Flash content, and the seeking of incoming links.

    which currently is not able to rewrite correctly URL of the component akocomment (and akobook as well). This is very frustrating for me and for You as well (As I have received many emails on this). I will have t write an extensions this week end to solve this issue.

    I've solved the issue with openSEF by promptly deactivating it when the user submit a for from akocomment or akobook. All You have to do is siimply edit the file /component/com_sef/sef.php

    (Line 26)
    $sefEnabled = (file_exists( $sefConfigFile ) && filesize( $sefConfigFile ) > 0);
    if ($sefEnabled && $_SERVER['REQUEST_METHOD'] == 'POST' && !empty( $_POST['option'] ))
      $sefEnabled = !($_POST['option'] == 'login' || $_POST['option'] == 'login' || $_POST['option'] == 'com_phpshop');

    $sefEnabled = (file_exists( $sefConfigFile ) && filesize( $sefConfigFile ) > 0);
    if ($sefEnabled && $_SERVER['REQUEST_METHOD'] == 'POST' && !empty( $_POST['option'] ))
      $sefEnabled = !($_POST['option'] == 'login' || $_POST['option'] == 'login' || $_POST['option'] == 'com_phpshop') || $_POST['option'] == 'com_akocomment' || $_POST['option'] == 'com_akobook');

    This is of course a hack and not a correct solution, akocomment URL won't be SEO friendly ! I Will have to inverst more time to write a custom extension for OpenSEF....

  • The new version of akocommentPlus will contains the following new functionnalities....

    • First a user change Request coming from my WIKI: Slight spin on the previous idea: if the (genuine!) user enters the wrong text, he loses all of his comment. Within the defined limits it would seem much better to allow him to try again X times, otherwise the user will get very upset at having lost a masterful comment (Sean Groarke, France)
    • Then something that is missing since a long time...the ability to let user enter his email adress in order to be warned when someone post an answer/a new comment in the same topics as him or when someone made a new revision of the document
    • Some annoying bugs (so hurry up and post them at the joomla tracker fast)

    Below a screenshots of a running copy

  • I am working on a small proof of concept for Joomla! and components that allow visitors to leave comments. At engadget, there is, since the redesign, an interesting widget written in CSS (click on picture to see it running)

    And here is my version, achieved after 2 hours of work. There is still some work to do to make it move pleasant to the eyes, the PHP API is stable even if there is some changes still to be done in JavaScript.

    • Size of bubble is dynamic and depending on number of comments but can be configured to be always of the same size.
    • Y axis label (0 - 128) need to be remove (JavaScript)
    • X label (0 - 100) must be replaced by time (JavaScript)
    • Joomla! 1.5 module
    • Use Mootools 1.2
    • Use MooChart from Johan Nordberg
    • OO code from the beginning, 300 LOC

    Functionalities (ideas)

    • Get the latest X articles of the week and display bubble against number of comments,
    • Get the highest commented articles,

    Release date is unknown, still need to take care of my mother and go first through my forums
