  • Apple just did steal the idea and is trying to convince the world that they did create it.

The Verge is reporting that, in particular, Samsung pointed to the Diamond Touch device — developed in 2001 at the Mitsubishi Electronic Research Laboratory — which included predecessors of both pinch-to-zoom and Apple’s bounce-back effect. The device, available in the MERL lounge for anyone to use, saw images snap back into place, rather like they do in iOS, and featured an application called Fractal Zoom, which allowed users to manipulate and zoom in on images using multiple finger gestures.

+ picture quality is extraordinary, even when looking at the picture from the side!!!!
+ menu are well organized, the "auto store" channel has worked like a charm (but has take 5 minutes, who care it would have take longer manually)
+- attention the contrast level is set at 100% at factory, at 65% picture is still very good and that will preserve life of lighting tubes
    - the remote control is a little bit too big and isn't of any particular design (I would say awful even if it is multistandard: TV, VCD etc....).

Only drawback, I wish Samssung make it even bigger size. A very good value even if it is pricey....1900euro

Samsung and Google introduce GALAXY Nexus
World's First Smartphone to feature Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and a HD Super AMOLED display

Hong Kong – October 19, 2011 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a leading mobile device provider, and Google, today announced GALAXY Nexus™, the world's first smartphone running Android™ 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest release of the Android platform. GALAXY Nexus features a 4.65" HD Super AMOLED display technology at 720p resolution and a 1.2GHz dual core processor.
"Samsung and Google have closely collaborated to push the mobile experience forward. We are pleased to deliver the best Android smartphone experience for customers with GALAXY Nexus. We will continue to move forward with Android to provide the compelling consumer experience in mobile world," said JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung's Mobile Communications Business.
"Ice Cream Sandwich demonstrates the Android platform's continued innovation with one release that works on phones and tablets and everything in between. Features like Android Beam and Face Unlock show the innovative work our team is doing, and GALAXY Nexus showcases the power behind Ice Cream Sandwich," said Andy Rubin, Senior Vice President of Mobile for Google.
The first smartphone to feature Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich
Ice Cream Sandwich brings an entirely new look and feel to Android. It has a redesigned user interface with improved multi-tasking, notifications, Wi-Fi hotspot, NFC support and a full web browsing experience. GALAXY Nexus features software navigation buttons, a first for Android smartphones. The lock screen, home screen, phone app, and everything in between has been rethought and redesigned to make Android simple, beautiful, and useful.
Ice Cream Sandwich also features a new People app, which lets you, browse friends, family, and coworkers, see their photos in high-resolution, and check their latest status updates from Google+ and other social networks. GALAXY Nexus features a redesigned camera which introduces panorama mode, 1080p video capture, zero-shutter lag, and effects like silly faces and background replacement.
GALAXY Nexus is also connected to the cloud, keeping your email, contacts, and all other data synced across your devices. You have access to more than 300,000 apps and games from Android Market™, or, in certain countries, you can buy and read books, or rent movies and stream them instantly from your phone. In the U.S., you can also upload your music to the cloud with Music Beta by Google and listen anywhere, even when offline.
Ice Cream Sandwich introduces innovations such as Face Unlock which uses facial recognition to unlock your phone. Using NFC technology, Android Beam allows you to quickly share web pages, apps, and YouTube™ videos with your friends by simply tapping your phones together. You can even use fun effects while shooting video or video chatting with Google Talk™.
    Google Experience
GALAXY Nexus is designed to provide a "pure Google," experience, and with it, you will be the first to receive software upgrades and new applications as they become available.
It also features a number of Google Mobile services, including: Android Market, Gmail™, Google Maps™ 5.0 with 3D maps and turn-by-turn navigation, Google Earth™, Movie Studio, YouTube™, syncing with Google Calendar™, and a redesigned Google+ app.
Best-in-class hardware meets the most advanced software
GALAXY Nexus is the first smartphone to feature a 4.65'' display with a market-leading resolution of 720p (1280x720), ensuring you can enjoy GALAXY Nexus' immersive entertainment capabilities and fast web browsing in superior clarity.
Succeeding the original Contour Display of Nexus S, GALAXY Nexus comes with a rounded shape that fits perfectly within your palm or to your face for phone calling. Hyper-skin backing on the battery cover improves the ergonomic feel of the device and makes the phone slip-resistant. At just 8.94mm thick, with a minimal 4.29mm bezel, GALAXY Nexus provides superb portability alongside an expansive screen.
GALAXY Nexus also features an ultra-fast 1.2GHz dual core processor, providing superior power and speed, ensuring you can take full advantage of GALAXY Nexus' enhanced multitasking capabilities with ease, or enjoy the large, vivid display to its full capacity with high-definition gaming or video streaming. LTE or HSPA+ connectivity combined with a dual core processor delivers high-speed web browsing which ensures you always have the web at your fingertips, wherever you are.
GALAXY Nexus will be available in the U.S., Europe, and Asia beginning in November and gradually rolled out to other global markets.

  • I have to apologize a bit:

I did try the following: NAS Synology DS408 as DNLA server + Samsung 8700 LED 3D and most format are recognized (some exotic wmv audio codecs were not working but who has wmv anyway)
When I did try with USB, nothing was working.

My father has a Samsung LED 7000 46 inch of december 2009 and this model dont play anything at all though USD and DNLA, I did bought a WD live media streamer for him yesterday evening (I did twitt a lot about it)

Attention they may be firmware differences between America, Europe and Japan.
We have 4 Samsung in the family: 2 LED 8700 3D 55', one LED 7000 and one old Le32 so I am quite satisfied (even if the Panasonic kiosk 3D demo is really a lot better than the 3D demo of Samsung)

The video codec on the television (listed in the manual) are the only formats that the television will play with DLNA. All three values have to match up (codec, resolution, audio codec) for the file to be streamed!

So in other words, you’ll NEVER find any video that match all these values except if they are meant to be played on the Samsung.

So all your peer to peer (Bittorent, eMule) video found legally (or illegally on internet) have a lot of chance to be not playable at all. In fact these Samsung LED TV are FAR away from a VideoLan (VLC) solution.

Only the codec below in the manual are programmed to play - and that is through the Samsung PC Share program.

(table extracted from the manual of a Samsung 8700 3D TV)

    And what do I use?

Nothing for now on my TV, I have a computer hook to a projector and use VLC 100% of the time. I am not for a dedicated player like the pop-corn C200 as it has way too many issues (stability, heat, supported codec), my next move would be to buy a small Atom/Ion 2  like the Shuttle XS35GT

The Samsung UE 55 C8700 (LED TV 140cm, 200Hz, wifi ready, 3D Ready)  is the current Flagship of premium TV (the Samsung C9700 is basically a 7700 repackaged in a thinner casing).

The box is huge, and require two persons to be carried vertically. The screen is well protected but not against any perforation of the carton. As you can see in the pictures number 3. Luckily the screen was not injured during the transport.

    IMG_2945 IMG_2946

Don’t be fool by the appearance of the stand, even if it is stable and work as expected, it is just a piece of plastic. When you pay a premium price, you are expecting at least an aluminum stand, no?.

This TV looks just amazing!!! the finish of the brush metal look is really nice even If I was always satisfied by the piano black finish of all my previous Samsung’s TV. The logo is illuminated and is not disturbing the watching of movies, controls in the right corner are basics  but sufficient (who is anyway getting up to switch channels today ;-)  )

The default settings (out of the box “dynamic” is pre set) make any show just unwatchable: everything look too hell, colors are denatured. As always tune to your liking, by popping up some Blu-Ray you really like until you get the outstanding picture that this TV really deserve. Don't get me wrong, it is not a huge task (2-3 minutes in my case) and you’ll really feel the difference!

Samsung  has solved the light coming from the corners (Edge lightning) that was hitting previous model line of 2009. I found some lighting uniformity issues while watching a blu-ray (Surf’s Up has some white text on a black background) something known as backlight Clouding Issue: this should not appear in this model

    Remote control

    soon ..

    • Heavy and stylish, very good locking

    • very limited to enter text
    • Difficult to find the lighting button in the top right corner: a proximity sensor and light detector would have been more efficient

I got two Samsung SSG-2200AR Active Shutter Glasses in the package.

To start them all you have to do is just to push the small power button , glasses sync in no time and work nearly immediately. They turn off to save battery in the following case

    • TV content is no more in 3D
    • You switch the TV off
    • You press the power button for a few seconds

NOTE: These glasses are working like sunglasses and remove some brightness (more than 40% i would say) when viewing 3D content.

A  soft cloth carrying case for glasses protection is part of the package:

    Media Center

You can connect a USB external hard drive and play music, photo's and movies directly from the HDD.

    Internet TV

Internet@TV lets you enjoy more with Internet TV, as long as you connect the television with an Ethernet cable or an optional WIFI dongle (+$80). You can get a lot of small applet to run, just to name a few:

    • eBay, real-time updates, place bids, monitor your list of watched items
    • Twitter, the famous micro blogging
    • Yahoo! News
    • Yahoo! Weather
    • Flickr
    • YouTube
    • Google MAPS

    Sound great? yes but

Widgets are quite slow to startup, the remote control is VERY limited to enter text: a Bluetooth keyboard would be welcomed but is not supported…try to enter an address in Google Maps and you will understand what I mean.
